APPR Reporting Requirements for Homebound Students

The following rules apply with regard to APPR Reporting, while a student is "Homebound" - meaning they are unable to attend school because of a physical, mental, or emotional illness or injury, which has been substantiated by a licensed physician.

  • Enrollment:  the student should remain enrolled in all of the courses they were enrolled in, prior to becoming homebound.

  • Attendance:  The student's attendance in courses, should accurately reflect whether the student received live instruction from the primary teacher of the course on each day the course is scheduled to meet.

    • The student should be marked PRESENT in class only when one of the following situations exist:

      • They receive live instruction from the primary teacher of the course on any day the course is scheduled to meet.

For Example:  a student would be marked present on a day the class meets, if they physically were in the classroom the primary teacher provided instruction in.

        --OR--

      • The primary teacher assigned to the course, happens to also be the tutor that was assigned to the student by the school, and they has physically visited the student in the residential treatment facility to provide instruction.

For Example: a student would be marked present on a day the class meets, if the tutor (is also the primary teacher), physically visited the student in the facility to provide instruction.

    • The student should be marked ABSENT from class - if they do not receive live instruction from the primary teacher of the course on any day the course is scheduled to meet.

For Example:  a student would be marked ABSENT from class if they were not physically in the classroom on a given day, and instead are being sent packets of instructional material which is intended to provide the student with self study, or to provide a tutor (not the primary teacher) the ability to provide the student with supplemental instruction.
